Description:This study also revealed that both parents took on a protective role regarding how their children may be viewed by others in society based on their children's dual identity. Further, as interracial couples continue to create and present a balanced view of their family, their biracial children will experience less core identity conflict and will be able to mediate social marginality. Based on this study, couples acknowledged the importance of educating their children about being biracial and exposing them to a balanced view of their families, and passing on the positive as well as the negative attributes of both sides of their family in support of helping their children develop a cohesive personal identity.
